Club Person of the year 2007

Ciaran Brannigan
compiled by Ciarán Crilly

Ciaran Brannigan like most other recipients of this award has for most of his lifetime been involved in one capacity or another with St Malachy’s GAC. In recent years he has served on the committee carrying out a wide range of duties and is always among the first to volunteer his services for whatever tasks are required. From fundraising, ground maintenance, club repairs or helping out with teams this man’s boundless energy and enthusiasm knows no bounds and he can always be relied upon to get the job done.

However in the year past his services to the Club have been exceptional and it can be said unsurpassed. From March until December he put his services full time and without pay at the disposal of the Club carrying out every conceivable task that was required. In particular and in the year we opened our second pitch at Dublin Road he paid great attention to getting this ground prepared and in tip-top condition.

At the same time he ensured that our No1 pitch at St Malachy’s Park was always cut  for games and that both pitches received the required maintenance in line with contractors specifications. While looking after the pitches and grounds took up a great deal of his time he was also a leader for some of our major fund-raising events. In particular but not exclusively the Club Marquee Festival last July where he along with a number of other Clubmen devoted almost the entire 12th fortnight preparing for, working during, and cleaning up after the 4 day event.
